Eric Herndon worked as an independent caregiver for several intellectually disabled individuals for ten years. One of these individuals was his son, Flint. Eric and Flint would spend the day taking individuals to the gym, out to lunch, bowling, miscellaneous fun activities and transportation to work in a limousine. The individuals loved being with Eric, but most of all they loved riding around in the limousine.
In April 2009, with the help of Eric’s daughter, Erica and her husband, Chris Redick, VIP Day Services opened its doors. We were located in a small store front on the south side of Olathe. The day services was centered around art and theater. The first VIP play production, “Grandma’s Fireplace” was presented that fall. Within a year, VIP had outgrown the store front and moved to 851 N. Mart-Way Drive.
A new name, VIP Quality Services (VIP), was introduced in 2012 as the company expanded its services to residential. Today, VIP has four group homes and a 12,000+ sq ft day services facility. The day services facility serves 45+ individuals and still focuses on art and theater but now also offers music, community outreach, fitness and health, gardening, crafts, cooking, book club and the list goes on.
